Service
Engineering Foundations
For owners, chief executives, and operations leaders without an engineering team
Start a team that builds and runs your software. We help plan the roles, set up your tools, train the team, and hand over.
Fit
Is this for you?
- You need software but have no engineering team.
- Every change depends on an outside vendor.
- You need a plan for your first tech team.
What this service does not cover
- Recruitment or staff supply
- Aqlumen running your team
- Laptops, networks, or an IT helpdesk
- A large platform before one useful tool
Your first step
Start with the first tool.
We assess what to build first, the team you need, and the setup. You get a recommendation and a plan.
Paid. Fixed scope. No obligation to continue.
Blueprint terms and ownership
The Engineering Foundations Blueprint is a paid, fixed-scope, standalone engagement. We examine the tools the business needs, current systems and vendors, skills, budget, and risks. You own the client-specific Blueprint outputs. Aqlumen retains its assessment methods, scoring logic, templates, and generic patterns. The agreement defines your rights to use any included reusable components. A pilot is a separate decision.
Your next decisionBuild your team, buy, partner, prepare, or stop.
Read the Blueprint guideWhat you get
- 01Build-or-buy recommendation
- 02Team and hiring plan
- 03Tools, accounts, and security plan
- 04First-tool pilot plan
Delivery
Build with clear controls.
Named people approve releases and high-impact actions. Production and high-impact work need qualified independent human review.
Delivery steps and handover
We agree training, operating documentation, and handover with your team.
- 01
Plan the team
Define roles and hiring steps. You hire and employ the team.
Role, hiring, and onboarding plan - 02
Set up the tools
Set up cloud, code storage, and AI tools in accounts you own.
Tools and access setup - 03
Set the workflow
Agree on how work is built, reviewed, released, and supported.
Team workflow and release guide - 04
Secure it and hand over
Set up basic security, train the team, document operations, and hand over in stages.
Security checklist and handover record
Fictional example: A first internal tool for a company with no developers.
In this fictional example, a services company tracks client requests in shared spreadsheets and wants its own tracking tool. It has no developers, no code storage, and no cloud account.
- 01
Decide what to build
The Blueprint compares ready-made products, extending current software, and building a small tool. No product supports the approval steps the company needs, so the sponsor approves a small build.
- 02
Set up the basics
Cloud, code storage, sign-in, and release accounts are opened in the company's own name. The company hires two engineers using the agreed role profiles.
- 03
Build with review
The new team builds the first version with AI tools. A second person tests and reviews each change before the owner on the client's side approves release.
- 04
Hand over
The team runs releases, support, and access reviews, first with Aqlumen reviewing, then on its own. The handover record names who owns each part.
Fictional walkthrough. It does not show client work or measured results.
After the Blueprint
Test one workflow.
A pilot is a separate decision, with named owners, agreed measures, and clear success and stop conditions.
Pilot scope, measures, and responsibilities
Pilot scope
- One first internal tool or workflow
- A small setup in accounts you own
- A first team with named roles
- Basic security, access controls, and secret storage
- An agreed review, release, and support process
- Current measures, success and stop conditions, and client owners
Possible measures
Chosen together during the Blueprint. Activity alone does not prove value.
- Time from request to reviewed release
- Changes passing automated checks
- Release and recovery readiness, including a tested rollback
- Security basics and access reviews
- Work your team completes without Aqlumen
- Time to onboard a new engineer
What we need from you
- What you want to build and why
- Current systems, vendors, contracts, data, and accounts
- Budget, hiring limits, and any security or legal requirements
Who is involved
- Your senior sponsor and day-to-day owner
- The hiring manager and first team members
- Security, legal, finance, and IT input where needed
Before going ahead
- Building in-house fits better than buying, partnering, or doing nothing
- You approve the accounts, budget, roles, and hiring plan
- Basic security, release approval, support, and handover are agreed
